7 December 2022. I take for granted the instant communication at my fingertips via video calls, texting and phoning. This brought to mind when FaceTiming family overseas and how easy it is to reduce the miles to talk face-to-face. A world away from when my in-laws were Ten Pound Poms back in the sixties when letter writing took approx 6 weeks in which to catch up on news ‘from home’. There was the option of a telephone call, but that was expensive, allowing for one call per 6 months or thereabouts. And this, with all the family going to the post office and gathering around waiting for their minute’s worth. Yes, I take all this for granted and marvel on just how far we have come, both in distance and technology.
